LadyBug Spinning was inspired when I sold my old spinning wheels to purchase my Schacht LadyBug spinning wheel. This blog follows my journey with spinning, knitting, and natural dying. As you see, this blog is about "playing" with fiber and includes some highlights from a visit to Scotland's Islands... Shetland, Orkney, and the Outer Hebrides.

Schlepping Around Shetland
Well maybe not quie schlepping but it sounds good with Shetland. We traveled through remote areas of the island today. All of it way off the beaten path. Drove down very narrow country roads that only one car at a time can go by. That was fun! We made our way to the very, very remote homes/studios of a hand spinner and a weaver. Complete with majestic cliffs, ocean views, and sheep, lots of sheep (and ponies). Here are a few pics of the day. Enjoy.
The very rural home/workshop of a local spinner:
Beautiful Shetland sweater and shawl.
Natural dyed Shetland fleece. Usually over grey or fawn fleece. Alum mordants.
A view from her door. Nice.
And finally, a Fair Isle hen. What could be more perfect than that?
Cheers! Mary
